Deutsche Bank Notes Georgia-Pacific Is Raising Containerboard Prices by $55/Ton; Will Others Follow?

May 28, 2008 12:16 PM EDT

Deutsche Bank notes that trades sources are reporting that Georgia-Pacific will raise containerboard prices by $55/ton on July.

The firm said, "In light of rising costs and high operating rates, this news is hardly a surprise. However, the fact that G-P is the first to move on price is interesting.  Some players in the trade had pointed at G-P as a cause for last winters’ failed price initiative.  The proposed hike is a bit larger than the $40-50/ton
increases that are typical in the containerboard market."

Stocks Deutsche Bank highlighted related to the news: Greif Inc. (NYSE: GEF), International Paper Co. (NYSE: IP), Packaging Corp. of America (NYSE: PKG), Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. (Nasdaq: SSCC), Temple-Inland Inc. (NYSE: TIN).
