Oppenheimer August Comp Preview
Analyst, Pamela Quintiliano, said, "Gap (NYSE: GPS), Ross Stores (Nasdaq: ROST) and TJX Cos (NYSE: TJX) report comps Thursday before the open while Zumiez (Nasdaq: ZUMZ) monthly results will likely be provided with its after market earnings announcement. August is important as a gauge for 2H successes/failures as BTS productivity is often viewed as a precursor to holiday. However, given all three reporting in the morning have recently provided MTD commentary/3Q guidance on their earnings calls we don't expect upward earnings revisions/significant stock movement. The wild card is ZUMZ which has a more back-end loaded sales calendar compared to peers given emphasis on guys. We believe expectations are appropriately reflected at current levels and do not see major downside risk. Longer term, upside remains although lingering concerns regarding recent CFO departure and Toms shoe anniversary may limit near-term upside. Looking beyond monthly reporters, our top picks remain American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) and Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN). Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF), Aeropostole (NYSE: ARO) and Lululemon (Nasdaq: LULU) and are increasingly interesting at current levels."
