Nomura Securities on Retailing/Specialty Stores
Analyst, Paul Lejuez, said, "Based on our channel check as well as updates from recent earnings calls, we believe May performance was mixed. We expect that performance at off-pricers remained strong. We believe May was helped at the women’s retailers and dept stores by the later Mother’s Day (which may have shifted some sales into the month and out of Apr). Teen retailers had fewer traffic driving events in May vs. the prior two months, perhaps causing a lull in sales, though promotions seemed well controlled. Limited (NYSE: LTD) and American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) are our top picks."
