Bakers Footwear (BKRS) Reports Increase in May Same-Store Sales
Bakers Footwear Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: BKRS) reported May 2009 sales. For the four-week period ended May 30, 2009, net sales increased to $15.4 million, compared to $15.1 million in the same period last year. Comparable store sales (sales for stores open at least one year or more) for the four-week May 2009 period increased 3.1%, compared to a decrease of 4.0% for the four-week period ended May 31, 2008.
Peter Edison, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bakers Footwear Group commented, "...As we begin June, we expect our recent positive comparable store sales to continue, driven by the strength in open-toe footwear, which increases as a percentage of our overall assortment throughout the summer months."
