FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/03/16 -- The Z-Wave Alliance, a global membership organization dedicated to advancing the popular Z-Wave wireless smart home protocol, is excited to announce that Nokia has joined its membership to advance their smart home business strategy. Nokia, a global leader in the technologies that connect people and things, provides technology offerings to help communication service providers, governments, and large enterprises deliver on the promise of 5G, the Cloud and the Internet of Things. Because Z-Wave is one of the key wireless IoT platforms being used in residential applications, Nokia is implementing Z-Wave in its latest generation of smart home gateway products.

"The size of the Z-Wave ecosystem and the functionality of the platform will allow Nokia to combine our core offerings of residential gateways for communication and entertainment to gateways that support Internet of Things functionality," said Leopold Diouf, General Manager Digital Home at Nokia. "Smart home is one of our strategic focus areas and the Alliance will absolutely accelerate these efforts. To realize the full potential of the smart home, interoperability is key. Being able to leverage the Z-Wave Alliance renowned certification program and work with Z-Wave vendors who have already been certified will significantly support our ability to deliver a robust offering."

Nokia joins almost 400 additional Z-Wave Alliance members in supporting the Z-Wave standard in smart homes around the world. Z-Wave has experienced unprecedented growth in the past year, with a 25% increase in members and over 50 million devices shipped globally.

"We are excited to welcome Nokia to the Alliance.
