WellCare Gives $5,000 in Micro-Grants to Community-Based Organizations in Nevada

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) announced today that it gave $5,000 in micro-grants to five community-based organizations in Nevada. These micro-grants went to nonprofit and 501(c)(3) organizations that address needs related to homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse and grieving children. The micro-grants were given in denominations of $1,000.

"In order to support good health outcomes, social and medical needs must be met," said Danny Maxson, a community advocacy manager at WellCare. "These micro-grants will help to sustain Nevada's social safety net, which is critical to ensuring that people get the resources and services they need to get and stay healthy."

Since 1986, STEP2 has helped women and their families in Northern Nevada with substance abuse treatment and recovery. STEP2 pioneered gender-specific treatment for women in Nevada and currently provides state-of-the-art care for pregnant and parenting women and their children, including intensive outpatient treatment coupled with transitional housing.

Caridad, Inc.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Caridad provides customer service-based street outreach to the homeless in Las Vegas. Teams with a specific, walkable territory reach out not just to the homeless to know what services they need most, but network with parking enforcement, security teams and business owners. These community partners help Caridad to engage and assist in client case plans to deliver the services most needed. 

National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI)

NPHY serves the thousands of homeless youth in Southern Nevada through its core programs and outreach. NPHY's programs stabilize homeless teens' lives, meeting their immediate needs and providing a safe, supportive environment and a path to self-sufficiency.
