SAN DIEGO, Nov. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- It's "part Comedy Central, part Military Channel, part Hulu" – and completely irreverent. It's the first of its kind streaming television network addressing the unique, often misunderstood (and definitely not mainstream) post-9/11 veteran milieu*. Meet "Vet TV," "Veteran Television" created by and for veterans, and driven by veteran entrepreneurs with a desire to keep serving the veteran community using humor and camaraderie.

With a tagline: "This ain't your grandpaw's VFW," Vet TV plans to launch with at least one original episode per week, all created, produced, and performed by veterans.

Donny O'Malley is the founder of Vet TV, and he's not your typical Marine Captain. "We are creating hilarious, realistic, irreverent, nostalgic television shows for the veteran community. We are creating what everyone has joked about for their entire career. We are creating entertainment that will make them laugh harder than anything in their lives, and at the same time will remind them of the best adventure of their lives, with the best people. We are creating an outlet to process the last 15 years of war, and we're doing so in the most dark, perverted, and not-politically correct way possible, because that's how we lived it."

The Kickstarter campaign for Vet TV, which expires on Thursday, November 17, has already raised more than $200,000 of its $250,000 goal.

O'Malley offers much more information about the shows on the Kickstarter page, which needs its own "trigger warning" and is not suitable for most work environments.

The first shows planned by Vet TV include:

  • "Kill, Die, Laugh" – it's the "Chappelle's Show," of the military, which will "mercilessly parody the most serious issues facing the military and veteran community, without regard for the opinions of senior officers, civilians, and others. In Chappelle's style, this will be filmed in front of a live audience, comprised of some Kickstarter backers of the network.
  • "A Grunt's Life" – a foul-mouthed, bloodthirsty, comical Marine Lieutenant and his platoon, hunt for Taliban from a small patrol base in Afghanistan (hilarity does, actually, ensue).
  • "Veteran Mating Game" – fashioned as a parody of the iconic "Dating Game," but with less-savory characters than those paraded by the USO.

O'Malley concluded: "We're a different breed, us modern, post-9/11 veterans. We use humor to cope, we always have, and we think it's a very effective method to keep ourselves connected, and to keep paying back to our country. This is a great outlet for veterans to laugh at their past, and then acknowledge some things they might be trying to ignore, and we plan on being extremely irreverent."

*If successfully funded, Vet TV promises to avoid using the word "milieu" ever again.
