Ventura County Community College District Student Trustee Creates District-Wide Student Council

VENTURA, Calif., Feb. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ventura County Community College District Student Trustee Ilse Maymes proposed bylaws to officially organize the District Student Trustee Council during a meeting at the District Administrative Center on Friday, January 22, 2016.  The purpose of the council is to represent the interests of students at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura College; effectively communicate and act upon student issues; discuss legislative issues affecting community colleges; and share student opinions on bills with the Board of Trustees. The council will consist of four members, including the Student Trustee and the Associated Student Government President from each of the colleges or a designee. All meetings and operations of the council will comply with the provisions of the Ralph M. Brown Act, California's open meeting law.

The meeting and lunch was attended by the Ventura Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Bernard Luskin, Vice Chancellor of Educational Services, Rick Post, Board of Trustee Chair, Larry Kennedy, Trustee Vice Chair, Bernardo Perez, Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura college presidents (Luis Sanchez J.D., Dr. Greg Gillespie and Dr. James M. Limbaugh) along with representatives of the college's associated student government leaders, student advisors, and external affairs officers.
