Full-tuition scholarships available for current and prospective K-12 teachers for master’s degree programs in education

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- University of Phoenix® College of Education is helping current and aspiring teachers realize their dreams of higher education by offering 20 full-tuition graduate-level scholarships. The Teacher Appreciation Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to complete master’s degrees in education from University of Phoenix. The scholarship is open to current K-12 teachers and those who aspire to be teachers and have earned bachelor’s degrees.

“The scholarship recognizes the incredible commitment K-12 teachers have to their students by providing an opportunity to enhance their own careers,” said Pamela Roggeman, academic dean for University of Phoenix College of Education. “With more than a quarter of K-12 teachers in a University of Phoenix survey1 saying they switched careers to enter the classroom, we hope the Teacher Appreciation Scholarship program will also help inspire aspiring teachers to join this worthy profession. The University is proud to support teachers on their personal education journeys.”

JJ Owens, a 2013 recipient of the Teacher Appreciation Scholarship, used the scholarship to complete his Master of Arts in Education at University of Phoenix. Working as a high school English teacher and football coach in Texas, he credits the opportunity with strengthening his leadership skills to help him support student success in the classroom and on the field.

“Receiving the scholarship helped me make the decision to go back to school,” said Owens. “Continuing my education was a milestone achievement, and having the opportunity to do what I love every day – help students learn and grow – means so much. I wish future scholarship recipients success in their educational journeys.”

Applicants may apply through Sept. 27, 2016. The scholarship is open to the first 300 qualified applicants who meet the defined eligibility criteria, and may close early once all qualified applications are submitted. Scholarship recipients will be announced Dec. 16, 2016.
