NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 05/12/15 -- In honor of National Volunteer Month and Mother's Day, United Way of New York City (UWNYC) and Bank of America (BoA) have once again come together to support families in need in NYC. On April 29th, one-hundred Bank of America employee volunteers packed two-thousand "Basics for Babies" kits, as part of a designated "Volunteer Day of Action." These kits-which include necessities like soap, lotion, powder, shampoo, wipes, combs, and brushes-will be provided to homeless parents of newborn babies and young children who rely primarily on the support of soup kitchens and shelters.

"We are grateful that our friends at Bank of America have allowed us to take part in this wonderful day of service," said Sheena Wright, President & CEO, United Way of New York City. "Their commitment to volunteerism is inspiring, and it is because of the value they place on helping those less fortunate, that people who can't afford the basic things that many of us take for granted, will benefit greatly."

To ensure that the packages get to the parents in a timely manner, United Way of New York City will coordinate efforts with their partner agencies who are a part of their Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP); and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)-both of which serve all five boroughs of New York City.

"Many New Yorkers struggle to provide necessities for their children and that's why we apply our resources, employees and expertise to help address the lack of access to basic human services," said Jeff Barker, New York State President, Bank of America. "To make a difference locally, we partner with nonprofits, like United Way of New York City, who are responding to the fundamental issues in our community."
