UMC Selected as a DJSI Global Component for Ninth Consecutive Year

Foundry continues to improve overall score, earns perfect scores in multiple categories

HSINCHU, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE:UMC; TWSE: 2303) ("UMC"), a leading global semiconductor foundry, today announced that Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) has selected UMC as a global component for the ninth consecutive year. DJSI awarded UMC with perfect scores in Environmental Policy and Management System and Environmental Reporting, with high scores in multiple other categories, illustrating the company's continued excellence in sustainable operations. This accomplishment sets a standard for leading global companies and is recognized by international investors. DJSI-World 2016 evaluated approximately 2,500 global enterprises, with only four semiconductor companies selected worldwide and only three listed for DJSI-Emerging Markets.
