After more than a decade, the Shipper Symposium has become a symbol of Transplace’s ongoing commitment to navigating the latest supply chain trends and obstacles faced by shippers, while helping them to identify strategies for addressing these issues and improving operations. A broad range of seminars from leading supply chain and economic visionaries will address current issues and trends that have a worldwide impact on the transportation of goods, as well as showcase strategic business solutions; all geared toward strengthening relationships and increasing supply chain efficiency while reducing total transportation costs.

Key Highlights

Tim Solso is the non-executive chairman of the board at General Motors. He began a 40 year career at Cummins Inc. in 1971, and was chairman and CEO of Cummins from 2000 until his retirement in 2011. Under his leadership, Cummins became a Fortune 250 company that now designs, produces and sells diesel engines, power generation equipment and related components worldwide. He has served both as a member of President Barack Obama’s Management Advisory Board and a principal on the American Energy Innovation Council. Mr. Solso was named a top five finalist to Marketwatch’s CEO of the Decade and to the Barron’s list of the 30 Most Respected CEOs for 2010 and 2011.

David Malpass is president of Encima Global, an economic research and consulting firm serving institutional investors and corporate clients. Formerly Bear Stearns’ chief economist, Mr. Malpass has also held senior economic appointments during the Reagan and Bush Administrations. His work provides insight and analysis on global economic and political trends, with investment research spanning equities, fixed income, commodities and currencies. A frequent public speaker and television guest, Mr. Malpass authors a Current Events column in Forbes magazine, and his opinion pieces appear regularly in the Wall Street Journal.

Transplace CEO Tom Sanderson will take the stage to discuss the latest regulatory challenges and how they can be addressed to better the transportation and logistics industry. With more than 30 years in third party logistics and transportation management, Mr. Sanderson takes an active role in watching for over-regulation by government entities and wasteful initiatives that affect transportation in the United States and abroad.

Brooks Bentz, president, Transplace Consulting Services, will also be speaking on the formal launch of Transplace’s North American consulting services practice. Mr. Bentz brings more than four decades of experience in transportation and logistics, and has held a number of senior leadership positions, including managing director in supply chain management at Andersen Consulting/Accenture.

Maas is a leading authority and international consultant on sleep and performance, and one of the world’s most sought after corporate, medical, association, education and professional athletic team speakers. Dr. Maas has been the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow as well as a professor in the graduate fields of Education and Communication at Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar.

Revolutionary business strategist, data analysis expert, and kingpin of the infamous MIT Blackjack Team, Jeffrey Ma created an ingenious method for counting cards using talent, creativity, math and teamwork to win millions in Las Vegas. During the session “3D Printing, Drones and Driverless Trucks – Creating a Futuristic Supply Chain,” Bill Kahn, principal engineer at Peterbilt Motors, and Dan McCarthy, vice president of operations at Solidscape, will explore how 3D printing technology, drones and driverless trucks will change the future of cargo and impact the overall supply chain industry. The panel will be moderated by president of Adelante SCM Adrian Gonzalez, the founder and host of Talking Logistics.
