Citing its ability to navigate a unique set of circumstances, demonstrating creativity in completing the assignment, and providing a safe work environment for a challenging task, the Ironworkers International Union and the Ironworkers Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT) have honored The Pangere Corporation of Gary, Indiana with their first ever Project of the Year Award. Anthony Pangere of The Pangere Corporation, Ronald Ware Jr., Business Manager of Ironworkers Local Union No. 395, and ArcelorMittal Manager of Maintenance Administration accepted the award on February 24th at the North American Ironworker/ IMPACT annual meeting in Las Vegas. During the award ceremony, Mahaffey stated "As an owner, we couldn't be more pleased how this went with zero injuries, a tight confined space, and an operating steel shop." The project, which was performed in Indiana at the ArcelorMittal USA Burns Harbor Plant, consisted of the replacement of 33 crane runway girders throughout the plant's Basic Oxygen Furnace.

The Pangere Corporation was selected among 10 finalists by an independent panel of judges who critiqued projects based on safety, complexity, and ingenuity used to achieve success. Project Manager Anthony Pangere said, "Communication was key between ironworkers and plant operators to avoid the dangers of hot metal splashes and moving equipment." The Pangere project team worked closely with plant personnel, attending production meetings to ensure safety and productivity as the facility continued operations. Pangere Superintendent Scott Fritz, who met with crews before each shift to discuss changes in the environment and potential hazards, stated that it was "essential to communicate the facility's movements to work crews before they happen." Fritz also pointed out the importance of teamwork, saying, "Engineering Project Manager Joe Boyce and the ArcelorMittal B.O.F. facility team were instrumental to Pangere completing this complex project safely and on time."

The Pangere Corporation is a family-owned and operated construction company located in Gary, Indiana. The company was established in 1905 and specializes in industrial and commercial construction services.
