COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Utility, Inc. announced today that the Colorado Springs Police Department has purchased 500 of its state-of-the-art BodyWorn™ body cameras, the only body camera available that automates the recording process. BodyWorn™ uses customizable, policy-based triggers to automatically initiate recording and ensure officers adhere to the Department's specific recording and privacy policies every time. In addition—because of its advanced Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity—BodyWorn™ is also the only body camera to upload video as it is recorded to a secure cloud server as well as instant video playback. The Department is expected to begin deployment in the beginning of September, 2016.

"Police body cameras are at the forefront of the national conversation. We want the world to know that the automatic-recording and smart technology being demanded is available and being used by police departments throughout the US," said Robert McKeeman, CEO of Utility. "In today's world, manually-operated anything is obsolete. BodyWorn™ is designed to eliminate the burden on police officers having to remember to push a start button to record video.  Policy-based recording allows police officers to focus on protecting themselves and the community—not being a videographer. Technology should never dictate policy. Our software is fully customizable, so BodyWorn™'s automatic-recording triggers will comply to each law enforcement agency's specific recording and privacy policies."

BodyWorn™ utilizes a smartphone embedded into the officer's uniform, ensuring the camera remains secure, does not become dislodged and always records the full scene in front of the officer. In addition to automatic recording triggers, BodyWorn™ automatically uploads video content to a secure cloud storage system and does not require officers to manually plug in devices to a docking station back at the precinct. This feature, Smart Offload, guarantees a secure chain of custody and accountability as all video is tracked in real time.

The Colorado Springs Police Department also purchased 250 Rocket™ IoT devices, turning each patrol car into a mobile, Wi-Fi hotspot. This will greatly enhance officers' communication capabilities—seamless access to BOLO alerts, Officer Down notifications, GPS mapping and many other unique capabilities.
