$72 million deal confirms success of and commitment to Tyler’s Odyssey solution

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today a four year contract extension with the Texas Office of Court Administration (OCA) for Tyler’s Odyssey® platform for eFileTexas, an electronic filing solution. The initial contract runs through Aug. 31, 2017, and this agreement, which is valued at $72 million, extends that through Aug. 31, 2021. When the eFileTexas project began in January 2014, it became the largest e-filing implementation in the country. It was successfully rolled out within 12 months to 100 Texas counties and all 254 counties by 2015, nine months ahead of schedule and on budget.

“eFileTexas has allowed us to take a complex process and simplify it for our very extensive court system throughout Texas,” said David Slayton, administrative director, Office of Court Administration. “Our decision to extend this agreement for the next four years confirms the fact that this solution has provided tremendous benefits for our courts and county clerks as well as bar members across the state.”

eFileTexas is a complex e-commerce solution that assists courts in creating a paperless system, allowing Texas courts to operate more efficiently and improve access to court information. eFileTexas has expanded to include criminal case e-filing and e-filing for self-represented litigants (SRLs). SRLs are guided through the process of filing court documents through an innovative, web-based program called Odyssey Guide & File™, which is included as a part of the Odyssey File & Serve™ platform.

The success of eFileTexas can be measured in a variety of ways. In its first year alone, the solution registered more than 90,000 users, eliminated nearly 27 million pages of paper and processed 4.2 million filings. It also integrated with 21 different electronic filing service providers (EFSPs) and 14 court case management systems. The size and speed of this successful statewide rollout of mandatory e-filing to 254 counties is unprecedented.

“eFileTexas and the work we have done in conjunction with our partners at the OCA has become a model for other court systems that are transforming their manual processes to electronic ones, most recently including Illinois,” said Jeff Puckett, president of Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division. “The eFileTexas contract extension underscores the value that a well-designed and managed e-filing system delivers to the legal community, and is another example of accelerating interest in e-filing nationwide.”

Odyssey File & Serve is used or is in the process of being implemented in 21 states and 900 counties, including 12 statewide implementations. There are more than 360,000 registered users across these states, and Odyssey File & Serve currently handles approximately 75,000 filings per day.
