Tens of thousands of EY professionals to connect with communities for annual day of service

NEW YORK, Sept. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, more than 23,000 EY professionals are taking to communities around the world for EY Connect Day, the organization's annual day of service rallying EY people in the U.S., Canada, Israel, Mexico, Central America and South America to work with non-profit organizations to conduct volunteer activities, especially those that support entrepreneurs, education and equity in the workforce.

The event, which started in 2010, reinforces EY's commitment to building a better working world and is the organization's largest signature volunteer program held on a single day. Since inception, more than 60,000 volunteers have taken part. This year's participation rate represents 37% growth from 2015.

"Whether it's teaching job skills to students alongside the United Way or helping the next generation of entrepreneurs through the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), EY volunteers not only strengthen their communities but also their professional growth by developing leadership skills, building teams, and increasing engagement with the firm."

This year, nearly 23,000 youth will be mentored and more than 2,000 people trained on workforce preparedness skills. Volunteer activities include teaching financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship skills to elementary and middle school students, introducing students to personal finance and career explorations, and conducting small group business plan coaching and one-on-one mentoring sessions, among many others.

EY Connect Day volunteers will be sharing their experiences via social media channels using the hashtags #EYConnectDay and #BetterWorkingWorld.
