A.M. Best Revises Outlook to Positive for Eastern Dentists Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group Feb 9, 2010 02:52PM

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A.M. Best Co. has revised the outlook to positive from stable and affirmed the financial strength rating of B+ (Good) and issuer credit rating of "bbb-" of Eastern Dentists Insurance Company, A Risk Retention Group (EDIC) (Burlington, VT).

The ratings of EDIC reflect its supportive risk-adjusted capitalization and favorable operating performance, enhanced by non-risk bearing income generated by its subsidiaries. Partially offsetting these favorable rating factors are the company's potential exposure to multiple claims from a single insured, though this has been mitigated somewhat by reinsurance as noted below, its concentration risks related to being a monoline writer of dental professional liability insurance and its somewhat low geographic distribution. EDIC also operates with a high expense structure explained by the lower dental premium rates relative to other professional liability specialty insurers.

The outlook reflects EDIC's improved level of capitalization and contemplates the company's sustainability of risk-adjusted capitalization and profitability over the near term. EDIC is the leader in providing professional liability coverage to dentists in Massachusetts and writes business across the northeastern United States. The company maintains large aggregate policy limits up to $6 million, although reinsurance is in place that provides coverage in excess of retained limits. EDIC recently improved its reinsurance structure to protect future earnings and overall capitalization from the impact of aggregate loss accumulation on a single insured basis.

China Wi-Max Communications, Inc. Projects Recurring Revenue Growth Feb 9, 2010 02:51PM

DENVER and BEIJING, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- China Wi-Max Communications, Inc. ("China Wi-Max" or "the Company) (OTC Bulletin Board: CHWM) today announced that the Company projects recurring revenue growth based on its fiber ring ownership and development, combined with the use of its government licensed and protected wireless spectrums.

BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS GROWTH

"There are many very large commercial buildings within reach of our 47-mile fiber ring around Beijing's Fourth Ring Road," noted Iain Stewart, Chief Technical Officer of China Wi-Max Communications, Inc.  "We are currently engaged in strategic negotiations with multi-tenant building owners and managers to provide broadband Internet access to those buildings and their tenants."

"Our 47-mile fiber ring, when combined with our licensed broadband wireless access, is especially valuable because further fiber development in the center of Beijing -- inside our fiber ring -- is currently discouraged.  China Wi-Max will use its government-licensed and protected wireless band at 5.8 GHz to extend broadband access eventually to most of Beijing."

SHANGHAI and HANGZHOU

China Wi-Max is also licensed by the government to use its wireless 5.8 GHz spectrum in Shanghai and Hangzhou.  (See: "CHWM Moves Forward in Shanghai With Agreement to Purchase 90 Miles of Fiber Network" at http://gaskinsco.com/chwm-1-14-10.htm).

"In addition, the Company currently owns 17 miles of fiber in Hangzhou, where it intends to develop and grow a significant, recurring revenue stream based on the success of the model being established in Beijing," continued Mr. Stewart.

Shanghai is the largest city in China and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with over 20 million people, while Hangzhou has a population approaching 7 million people.  Agreements are in place to acquire fiber and broadband wireless licenses in 7 additional Chinese cities in the near future, thereby addressing a population approaching 100 million.

Minnesota Department of Health Report: Nearly 6,000 Hospitalizations for COPD in 2007 Feb 9, 2010 02:51PM

SAINT PAUL, Minn., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The nation's fourth leading cause of death, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is now being measured by the Minnesota Department of Health's Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. The program focuses on three major causes of hospitalizations in Minnesota that can be triggered or made worse by environmental factors such as secondhand smoke or outdoor air pollution — asthma, heart attacks and COPD.

The report indicates that 3.4 percent of adult Minnesotans report having COPD, among those 65 or older the rate is much higher, 7.4 percent. For seniors 85 or older, COPD is even more common, as hospitalizations for the chronic lung disease has nearly tripled between 1996 and 2007. This trend in Minnesota mirrors national statistics, although the state's age-adjusted mortality rates for adults 45 years and older per 100,000 population is lower (78.4 percent) than the national average (88.5 percent).

Minnesota's lower death rates for COPD may be a result of the state's excellent health facilities, higher than average health insurance coverage, and a focus on the lung disease not found in other states. Minnesota is one of the few states to track COPD statewide with the Minnesota Behavioral Risk Factor Survey System. It also was one of the first states with a coalition of caregivers and research focused on COPD. In 2008, the Minnesota COPD Coalition and the American Lung Association in Minnesota issued a joint report that for the first time looked at the scope and cost of COPD in the state. Among the key findings:

-- In 2006, 1,760 Minnesotans aged 45 and older died of COPD
-- From 1996 to 2007, emergency department visits due to COPD increased 250
        percent
-- While males have a higher rate of death due to COPD, females are quickly
        closing the gap
-- The average cost of hospitalization for COPD is high: $18,975, excluding
        professional fees.

"We applaud, loudly, MDH's inclusion of COPD in their tracking program and anticipate more people hearing about this quiet killer of five Minnesotans daily," said Al Heaton, PharmD, pharmacy director at UCare and chair the American Lung Association's Minnesota COPD Coalition.
