State Senator, Representative to Join Red River Bank for Home Dedications

September 30, 2016 5:21 PM EDT

Dedication Ceremony, 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1

SHREVEPORT, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Louisiana State Senator Gregory Tarver (District 39) and Louisiana State Representative Cedric Glover (District 4) will attend a dedication ceremony on Saturday for two homes. The homes were funded, in part, by a $55,800 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant in 2015 from Red River Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas).

The grant to The Fuller Center for Housing of Northwest Louisiana (Fuller Center NWLA) assisted with land acquisition, down payment assistance, construction, closing costs, and homebuyer counseling assistance for eight new single-family homes in Shreveport’s Allendale neighborhood.

The homeowners will be present at the ceremony, which will take place at noon on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1548 and 1554 Clay Street, Shreveport. The media is encouraged to attend.

The Fuller Center NWLA was started in 2005 by Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller as a way to continue his vision of a grassroots movement working to eliminate poverty housing worldwide. The organization provides a no-interest mortgage, and all applicants are required to attend credit counseling and home management classes.

“As former mayor of Shreveport, making affordable housing accessible to the citizens of Shreveport is an issue that is near and dear to my heart,” said Representative Glover, who was mayor of Shreveport from 2006 to 2014. “Witnessing this partnership between the public and private sectors for the greater good of the community is a privilege.”

FHLB Dallas annually returns 10 percent of its profits in the form of AHP grants to the communities served by its member institutions such as Red River Bank. AHP grants fund a variety of projects, including home rehabilitation and modifications for low-income, elderly, and special-needs residents; down payment and closing cost assistance for qualified first-time homebuyers; and the construction of low-income, multifamily rental communities and single-family homes.
