NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/24/16 -- Times Square New York is featuring some of the top show biz icons in a show of support for children's diabetes, now epidemic in the U.S.

Quincy Jones, Jay Leno, Julie Chen, Babyface Edmonds, Josh Groban, Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie are among the stars who will appear on a giant LED billboard in Times Square at 1500 Broadway and West 43rd Street to support the Denver-based charity in its east coast premiere.

For the next seven weeks, each star will be featured for a week, and appear every 20 minutes throughout the day.

Each year, thousands of children and adults from all over the world are treated for diabetes at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, founded 38 years ago.

The Children's Diabetes Foundation (CDF), located in Denver, CO, was established by one of Los Angeles' most beloved society-philanthropists, Barbara Davis, and her late husband Marvin Davis, after their daughter, Dana, developed diabetes at the age of seven. CDF raises funds for the Barbara Davis Center to support world-class clinical care and cutting-edge research.

To date, various charity events, including the star-studded Carousel of Hope, staged bi-annually in Los Angeles, have raised over $100 million for the Center, which is housed in a $32 million facility at the Anschutz Medical Campus at the University of Colorado.

This year's 30th Carousel of Hope gala on October 8, which since 1978 has been a prime financial supporter of the Children's Diabetes Foundation, will honor Sir Sidney Poitier with the Inspirational Lifetime Achievement Award.

Additional honorees at the black-tie event will include Jane Fonda, David Foster, and Sherry Lansing, each of whom will receive the "Brass Ring Award" for their humanitarian efforts and continued support of the cause. Past "Brass Ring Award" recipients include Frank Sinatra, Halle Berry, Hillary Clinton, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, George Clooney, and more.

"We have come a long way and have seen miraculous advances toward the cure and prevention since we began this united fight over 38 years ago," says Barbara Davis, who has been the driving force behind the development and expansion of the world-renowned Denver facility.

"With better treatments, we are seeing the quality of life improved and extended for thousands of children and adults around the world," adds Dana Davis, Executive Director of the Children's Diabetes Foundation.

The Barbara Davis Center is one of the leading centers in the world that treats children and adults with type 1 diabetes. Diabetes affects 30 million Americans, 1.25 million of which have type 1 diabetes. The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes largely treats type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that currently has no cure.
