FREDERICKSBURG, Va., Oct. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ScoutComms, a social enterprise supporting and empowering veterans and military families through communications and philanthropic strategies, today announced that Brian Wagner has joined the company as Vice President.

Wagner, who until recently oversaw defense, healthcare, and international accounts for the communications division of McBee Strategic Consulting, brings to ScoutComms nearly a decade of professional experience spanning service as a public relations agency executive, Navy public affairs officer, Congressional advisor, and non-profit director.

"As ScoutComms continues to experience significant growth, Brian's addition to our team is an integral element of our maturation as a firm," said Fred Wellman, CEO and Founder of ScoutComms. "Brian's unique mix of communications and policy experience, along with his understanding of the veteran and military family community, establishes him as a versatile advisor to help ScoutComms' clients and adds another layer to our strong team of communications, non-profit and veterans community experts."

ScoutComms is organized as a Virginia Benefit Corporation, advocating for veterans and military families and empowering the organizations supporting them. The firm works with top non-profits, Fortune 500 corporations, innovative veteran-focused small businesses, foundations and government agencies. Recent clients include The Home Depot Foundation, the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, GE, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, Prudential, VetAdvisor, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, BAE Systems and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Prior to joining McBee Strategic and its communications agency predecessor Gibraltar Associates, Wagner was the Managing Director of international communications firm BLJ Worldwide's Washington, D.C. office. Before that, he was Senior Director of Policy and Public Affairs for the eHealth Initiative, a non-profit health care information technology association. Wagner began his career as a Policy Advisor for former Washington Congressman Brian Baird.

Wagner currently serves as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He holds a B.A. from Columbia University and has completed graduate work at the U.S. Defense Information School and the National Defense University.

Wagner previously founded LendVets, a non-profit that worked with military, business and government stakeholders across the country to create an online resource directory and informational network for military veteran entrepreneurs.

"After moving on from LendVets, I did not expect a second opportunity to provide direct support to veterans and military families," said Wagner. "But ScoutComms has developed a sustainable operational formula that has enabled it to build a profitable business around providing services that help empower veterans and military families. This job presents an amazing opportunity to do good by doing well, and I look forward to helping the company grow its client base while giving back to the veterans community through thoughtful, targeted attention and support."
