Dr. Robert Marvin is a Board Certified Surgeon who specializes in Minimally-Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery for the treatment of Morbid Obesity. He has additional Certification in Surgical Critical Care and has been recognized by the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS) as a surgeon practicing at a Center of Excellence in Obesity Surgery.

Dr. Marvin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in Biology in 1985. He spent the next four years in Montreal, Quebec, Canada at McGill University at medical school, and subsequently graduated with the degree of Doctor in Medicine and Master of Surgery in 1989. Dr. Marvin began his Residency Training in San Antonio at the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1989, where he was chosen as Administrative Chief Resident for General Surgery in his final year. In 1994, Dr. Marvin was designated as Outstanding Laparo-endoscopic Resident Surgeon.

In 1995 he moved to Houston, Texas where he completed additional training as a Fellow in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Texas, Houston. The following year he was asked to join the Faculty as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and taught at Hermann Hospital with the Trauma Service. He practiced general surgery, critical care and trauma surgery until 2000. During that time, he conducted clinical research and his work was published in multiple medical journals such as the American Journal of Surgery and the Journal of Trauma. He also was the main author on the chapter on Critical Care in Sabiston's Textbook of Surgery that year.

In September 2000 he left his professorship to enter a Private Surgical Practice. Dr. Marvin has done additional training to learn the techniques of Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass (1992), the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (2004) and the Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve (2007) operations. Since the inception of his Obesity Surgery practice in 2002 he has performed surgery for more than 1000 patients suffering from Morbid Obesity with excellent outcomes and low complication rates. He is the Medical Director for Obesity Surgery for both Obesity Surgery Specialists and Houston Surgical in Houston. He is currently the primary surgeon for the Houston Obesity and Metabolic Disease Clinic.
