Irvine, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2016

Proove Biosciences, Inc., the commercial and research leader in personalized pain medicine, is excited to announce the launch of the Proove Health Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting public health studies, volunteerism, and education to promote the use of personalized medicine for tackling the nation's most-pressing healthcare epidemics. As part of this effort, the Foundation sponsors public health research studies, educational programs, and volunteer activities. "By investing in research, education, and activism, we are able to invest in a better future," said Catherine Meshkin, Esq., Founder of the Proove Health Foundation.

According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, musculoskeletal disease is a nationwide epidemic--and it is the leading cause of physical disability in the United States of America. With more than 55 million Americans suffering from low-back pain, chronic pain is the most prevalent and expensive health condition in country--more than cancer, diabetes, and heart disease combined. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, physicians wrote nearly 259 million prescriptions for opioids in 2012 as a cost-effective and clinically-effective approach for controlling the epidemic of unresolved pain. With the rise in opioid prescriptions, however, three of four prescription overdoses are now due to opioids--and opioid abuse is a national epidemic that has become the leading cause of injury death.

To help find solutions to these related epidemics, the Foundation is sponsoring the Evaluation of Population-Based Incidences of Drug Abuse, Prescription Ethical Medication Irregularities, and Compliance Behaviors (EPIDEMIC) study. The EPIDEMIC study is aimed at collecting information to evaluate socioeconomic factors and other issues that contributed to abuse in order to create guidelines that help promote pain control and reduce opioid abuse. "With the EPIDEMIC study, we are confident that sufficient data will be gathered to support the creation of evidence-based guidelines that truly change lives," said Meshkin.

The Foundation further provides information related to public health and community-based initiatives. The goal is to serve as a resource for the public while creating strong ties within the community. As a result, local residents are able to volunteer through the Foundation, participate in internships and mentoring programs, and gain access to unique educational opportunities. As part of this focus, the Foundation partnered with Families Forward to prepare food bags for local families in need while working with the Friendly Center in Orange to distribute Easter Baskets to children. In addition, volunteers supported runners at the Los Angeles Marathon in February, 2016.

As an effort to engage and educate the community, the Foundation is creating an innovative Museum of Personalized Medicine. Scheduled to open in Summer of 2017, the Foundation is expected to bring a better understanding of the link between genetics and health to local residents. "Patterned after the founding of the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, the Foundation hopes to create a museum that inspires a future generation of innovators," said Meshkin.

About Proove Biosciences Our mission is to change the future of medicine. Proove represents the proof to improve healthcare decisions. We seek to realize a future when clinicians look back and wonder how they could have ever prescribed medications without knowing how a patient would respond. Physicians use Proove Biosciences testing to improve outcomes--both safety and efficacy of medical treatment. From a simple cheek swab collected in the office, Proove performs proprietary genetic tests in its CLIA-certified laboratory to identify patients at risk for misuse of prescription pain medications and evaluate their metabolism of medications.
