PredictoMobile(tm) Survey Methodology Highlights Fatal Flaw in Traditional Polling Model
NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PredictoMobile(tm) reports a double digit gap between the Democratic presidential candidate and his Republican opponent. The survey conducted was over the last two weeks and included over 6,000 individuals 18 years-old or older who use cell phones as a primary form of communication.
Using the ubiquitous cell phone and the common Simple Message Service (SMS-text) or texting, the PredictoMobile survey overcomes the dependence of limiting inquiries to those with landline phones. Since an increasing portion of the voting age population use cell phones as the sole source of telecommunications service, the PredictoMobile method provides a clearer picture of the race for the White House. A recent study by the independent Pew Research Center suggests the overall estimate of presidential preferences is affected by whether or not cell phone respondents are included.
Right after the first presidential debate, PredictoMobile found 56 percent of the nearly 6,000 survey respondents had indicated Democrat Barack Obama would win the election. When the so-called $700 billion bail-out plan was signed into law, the company asked: "In light of the bailout plan passing, who will win the Presidential Election?" An astonishing 72 percent of more than 3,600 respondents pointed to Senator Obama. Ten of the leading traditional polls cited a 50 percent preference for Obama among those surveyed.
Itai Kathlein, PredictoMobile's president, states: "We're not seeking to argue the accuracy of one survey over another. However, we strongly believe to ignore a new, effective and efficient polling methodology that makes use of cell phone texting can create a major distortion of reality. The ability to instantaneously reach thousands of Americans provides invaluable insight into how the events of the moment are affecting popular opinion."
