Pay for School in 2016: Fastweb's Recommendations for Students in the New Year

January 5, 2016 11:06 AM EST

CHICAGO, Jan. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As 2016 begins, Fastweb (www.fastweb.com), the leading website for scholarship and financial aid information and a member of the Monster.com network, recommends two significant actions students should take in the new year as they focus on paying for school.

Apply for Scholarships: The new year presents exciting scholarship opportunities for all students to find more ways to pay for school. In Fastweb's 2016 Scholarships article, they have shown several of the many valuable opportunities open now. High School focused scholarships such as the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Science Competition with awards between $5,000 and $10,000 and the Optimist International Oratorical Contest with an award of $2,500 are excellent examples. Graduate opportunities, such as the Swann Foundation Fellowship award of $15,000, are also available and open now. Students should apply now for scholarships that match their interest and academic goals.

"The new year is the time for students to focus on ways to pay for school and achieve their educational goals, finding and applying to scholarship opportunities is an important part of any plan," states Mark Nelson, Managing Director of Fastweb. He adds, "New opportunities are identified and added to our industry leading scholarship database on an ongoing basis, so students can benefit all year long."

Complete the FAFSA:  The FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) application for 2016-17, opened on January 1st. Students should fill out the application as early as possible to initiate the federal student aid process. More information about the FAFSA is available at Fastweb's Everything FAFSA page. Significant changes are also coming to the 2017-18 FAFSA, learn more with Fastweb's outline, 2017-18 FAFSA Changes: What Prior-Prior Year (PPY) Means for You.
