Organizing Committee of the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention: Silence Speaks Loudly Against Crime

Doha, Qatar, Apr 18, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Silence spoke as loudly against crime as the voice of 5,000 delegates in the 13th UN Crime Congress in Doha, Qatar.In a video that is just over a minute long, members of the Qatari Social and Cultural Center for the Deaf used sign language to deliver their message to end human trafficking, violence against women and children, corruption and the use of drugs. It also talked about the link between education and security.The video ran in a loop across all screens at the Qatar National Convention Center throughout the Congress. "At a time when many people fail to express themselves, here is a silent message against violence and crime from Qatar to the World," it said.An initiative of the Media Committee under the Preparatory Committee of the 13th UN Crime Congress, the video sought to promote the Congress and its message to as many people as possible."The proceedings of the Congress are translated in many languages," said Mr Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah, Head of the Media Committee. "It is only proper that we use sign language as well to communicate to those with hearing disabilities." The video has Arabic and English subtitles."There is a spot for each of us under the sun," the video said.The production was facilitated in coordination with the Center. Primary and secondary school students, as well as adults, with hearing disabilities participated.The Center is the first of its kind in Qatar and underlines the State's policy of taking full care of its citizens and residents. It provides assistance to the hearing impaired in the fields of education, awareness and entertainment. It caters to all nationalities, gender and age and operates under the Qatar General Authority of Youth.
