North Texas Mental Health Clinic Offers Complementary Treatment to Military Veterans and Families

Addison, Texas (PRWEB) June 08, 2016

Metrocare Services and the Cohen Veterans Network today announced the official opening of a complementary mental health clinic to help veterans and their families make the transition to a meaningful civilian life.

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Metrocare -- located at 16160 Midway Rd., Suite 218 in Addison -- is keenly focused on providing hope, recognizing that a mental health condition isn't a life sentence.

More than 2.6 million men and women have served in the military since 9/11. An estimated 40 percent of returning veterans who suffer from mental health issues do not seek treatment. As a result, many veterans come home unequipped to thrive in the very communities they fought to protect.

"These young men and woman often return home with invisible wounds. They don't need to suffer in silence. We are here to support and help them to lead healthy and happy lives," said Dr. Anthony Hassan, Executive Director of the Cohen Veterans Network.

The Military Family Clinic at Metrocare is part of a $275 million national investment from Steven A. Cohen, chairman and CEO of Point72 Asset Management. As part of the larger Cohen Veterans Network, this clinic is the third of an expected 25 clinics the network will build within the next 5 years.

The Cohen Veterans Network is the next phase of Steven A. Cohen's long-term commitment to help veterans and their families. His work with veterans began in part because his son served in the Marine Corps and is currently serving in the Reserves.

"The wounds of war are serious. It is not easy to serve your country in combat overseas and then come back into society seamlessly, especially if you are suffering," said Cohen. "These men and women have paid an incredible price and it's important that this country pays back that debt."

The Military Family Clinic at Metrocare also is collaborating with veteran service organizations in multiple counties throughout North Texas to provide complimentary services.

As North Texas continues to be a hotbed for corporate expansions and job growth, an infrastructure of integrated health care becomes increasingly important. That integration includes accessibility to mental health care.

"The Military Family Clinic is line with Metrocare Services' ongoing effort to treat all families and advance mental health for improved outcomes," said Dr. John Burruss, CEO of Metrocare Services, the largest provider of mental health care in North Texas, treating more than 50,000 people annually.
