New poetry collection chronicles recovery from addiction

Author Lorraine S. Gamble chronicles her alcohol addiction and how she overcame it in her new collection of poetry, "My Eyes Are Open Now: A Book of Poems" (published by Balboa Press).

The poems in "My Eyes Are Open Now" follow Gamble's journey as she struggles to come to terms with her addiction and seek help. Many of her poems reflect on the pain and isolation that Gamble experienced as a result of her addiction.

Through faith and spirituality, Gamble was able to overcome her addiction. Her poems capture the wisdom and spiritual guidance she garnered over the course of her healing. Through her book, she hopes to inspire others to overcome their own addictions and keep their spiritual eyes open.

"I use writing as a creative outlet to help me heal," Gamble says. "The poems are meant to encourage healing in others."

"My eyes were closed for so many years.
It was very difficult to see through the tears.
My very existence was living a lie.
It didn't matter how hard I would try."
