Neighborhood Legislature Statement On Newly Confirmed Title and Summary from State of California

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 06, 2015

California is the epicenter of innovation. It's the home of the late Steve Jobs and the personal computer; of Elon Musk and the electric car, of Marc Benioff and cloud computing. Soon, it could become the home of a new innovation in decentralized democracy: The Neighborhood Legislature. Each of those innovations was a disruption of the status quo. The Neighborhood Legislature is going to disrupt the status quo in the governmental sector, forever changing the power structure of California.

Today marks a significant milestone in the journey of the Neighborhood Legislature, which received Title and Summary from the Office of the California Attorney General this afternoon. It includes the important planks of the Neighborhood Legislature platform, including:

a. that district size will be shrunk by nearly 100-fold, bringing the average Assembly member's constituency down to approximately 5,000 citizens, and the average Senator's down to 10,000 citizens;
b. that over a ten year period, this initiative could save the State of California as much as $130 billion;
c. that a new voting and committee structure will be implemented to facilitate the much needed and sorely missing responsive governance in the state capital.

John Cox, Chairman of the Neighborhood Legislature, said the following:

"Our message has been a simple one – that special interest money has built a wall around our capitol that only the privileged may pass. Our plan is a simple one – to bring our representatives home and to make our government a true home of the people. And our mission is a historic one – to take a bold step in the evolution of democratic governance, and to do so right here in California

"Many changes in policy are needed in California. Those who benefit from the status quo keep it that way by funding the campaigns of our political leaders. That will end under the Neighborhood Legislature. This important change in the electoral structure will enable real reform to take place, something urgently needed to allow job creation, better education and safer communities all across the state."

In the coming weeks, Neighborhood Legislature will launch a statewide signature collection campaign with the goal of being on the 2016 ballot. A network of volunteers has already begun to mobilize ahead of the official launch. These Ambassadors will carry a profound message across the state: it is time for Sacramento to be guided by the people.

John Cox, a businessman from Rancho Santa Fe, is the major funder of the effort and has pledged $1 million to collect the signatures to qualify this initiative for the November 2016 ballot. Almost 1,000 volunteers have already enlisted to collect signatures and more are signing up every day.
