Nebraska Manufacturing Job Growth Stalls

October 6, 2015 10:33 AM EDT

EVANSTON, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Manufacturers’ News, Inc.-- Manufacturing employment in Nebraska was little changed over the past year, reports the 2016 Nebraska Manufacturers Register®, an industrial database and directory published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. According to MNI’s database of manufacturers, Nebraska lost 236 industrial jobs from July 2014 to July 2015, or less than a half percent.

MNI reports Nebraska is now home to 2,630 manufacturers employing 123,843 workers. MNI data indicates from July 2010-July 2014 the state recovered about half of the 8,900 industrial jobs it lost during the recession. This most recent survey marks the first year MNI has recorded a loss for Nebraska since the end of the recession.

“Although Nebraska struggles with global competition, a stronger dollar, and the avian flu outbreak, its business-friendly environment and abundant natural resources continues to be a draw for many manufacturers,” says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. “With several new companies opening or expanding in the state, this year’s slight loss may just be a bump in the road.”
