Momentum Builds For Worldwide "Day Of Jewish Unity" Before Congressional Vote On Iran Nuclear Deal

September 4, 2015 2:07 PM EDT

NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the consequential congressional vote on the Iran nuclear deal merely a week or two away, an estimated 500,000+ Jews worldwide are preparing to participate in a historic "Day of Jewish Unity" on Tuesday, September 8. Participants in this extraordinary event will unite to pray for the safety and well-being of the Jewish nation.

If the Iran deal is approved in its present form, there is a prevailing sense that it would place the Jewish people in harm's way and pose a grave threat to democracies worldwide. As a result, Jews representing a cross-section of world Jewry will take part in this special global event by reciting Chapters 20 and 130 of Psalms anytime between the hours of 7am and 12pm EDT on September 8.

The momentum is building as the "Day of Jewish Unity" launched a major campaign to alert people about this unique opportunity to engage in a remarkable display of unity and prayer. In addition to a social media campaign that has reached nearly 400,000 people worldwide, there is a large national ad buy in media outlets across the United States to further publicize the event.

A specially produced online video about the "Day of Jewish Unity" has been viewed over 85,000 times by people around the world (the video can be seen here: https://goo.gl/i37xoh). The video has elicited anti-Semitic and virulent comments from hate-mongers, such as "Death to Israel," which, according to event organizers, further highlights the need for Jews to come together and pray for divine intervention to combat the dangers they presently face.

Several dozen businesses from throughout North America and Israel have committed to participate in the "Day of Jewish Unity." Employees at these companies will be encouraged by their employers to set aside time during their work day on September 8 in order to recite two chapters of Psalms and join with more than a half-million people worldwide who will be praying for the welfare of the Jewish nation in light of the proposed Iran nuclear deal.

In conjunction with the "Day of Jewish Unity," a delegation of rabbis will travel to Radin in Belarus on September 8 in order to pray at the grave of the Chofetz Chaim, who was the beloved and revered leader of world Jewry in pre-war Europe. At the same time as the delegation will be praying at the gravesite of this renowned rabbi and respected scholar, Jews throughout the world – men, women and children of all ages, and of all backgrounds – will join together to recite the two chapters of Psalms in an attempt to deflect the acute danger that would result from allowing Iran a path to obtain nuclear warheads.

"As we face the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, we are seeing an incredible display of Jewish pride and unity as people worldwide are coming together to rely on our faith and engage in prayer in order to avert disaster and persevere," said Rabbi Motty Kroizer, international director of Acheinu, the organization coordinating this initiative. "This is a time of crisis and we need to act together now."

It is also noteworthy that the Congressional vote is scheduled to take place in proximity to the Jewish High Holidays, which are an appropriate time for repentance, reflection and prayer.
