Misys Open Source Solutions Releases Software to Prepare Companies for GHG Emissions Reduction and Compliance
Software and services leader releases open source software for companies to download
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Misys Open Source Solutions, a division of Misys plc (FTSE:MSY.L), today announced that it has made available the software source code for its Carbon Planning Toolkit, a professional greenhouse gas assessment and planning suite created to enable organisations to calculate their carbon footprints and create plans for reducing their emissions and tracking performance against voluntary and regulatory emissions reduction targets. The first CPT offering is a stand-alone, ready-to-use application that can be downloaded from SourceForge under OpenCarbon(TM).
"Recent advances in the Waxman-Markey and Kerry-Boxer bills in the House and Senate make it clear that climate legislation is imminent. We feel this is the perfect time to release these tools to assist companies facing this challenge," said Bob Barthelmes, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Misys Open Source Solutions, whose team launched OpenCarbonWorld.com last year to provide organisations with a free information portal to provide clarification on this complicated new area. A hosted version of the Carbon Planning Tool is also available through the site for those not wishing to run and manage their own application.
Unlike other carbon calculators, the CPT is a forward-looking planning tool that enables organisations to enter and calculate their carbon footprints, create a plan for reduction, and then track and monitor progress. Emissions calculations are based on the GHG protocol of the World Resource Institute. It is available as an open source application, released under the Apache Software license, 2.0, a business friendly licensing model that allows organisations to modify the code easily, with little effort or cost.
"The timing for this couldn't be better," stated Peter Fusaro, President of Global Change Associates. "The carbon tracking and reduction process can be complicated, so it's critical that organisations begin to understand their potential liabilities to guarantee their success in a carbon-constrained world."
Earlier this month, Misys unveiled an environmental trading platform for UK organisations and prior to that announced a partnership with leading emissions reporting company The Climate Registry to build the next generation of online emissions reporting.
