Rescued at approximately 9:30 a.m. in Sesuit Harbor, the 8-foot sea cow is in guarded condition and is being transported to SeaWorld's Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Orlando. SeaWorld vets and animal care specialists will care for the animal with the goal to return it to its normal habitat, the warm waters of Florida.

IFAW had been closely monitoring Dennis' "visit" in the hopes that it would return to warmer water on its own. As water temperatures became too cold for comfort, a rescue was coordinated in Dennis, MA, where the marine mammal had been spending most of his time. Dennis was named after the town by local residents.

SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days year, to rescue, rehabilitate and release hundreds of endangered animals each year. Rescued manatees are cared for in a specially designated rehabilitation area at SeaWorld.

IFAW, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, is one of the world's leading animal welfare and conservation organizations. Headquartered in the U.S. with offices in 16 countries, IFAW is a global advocate for the protection of whales, elephants, wildlife, animals affected by disaster, and pets in the world's poorest communities.
