Learning Heroes Releases "Super 5 Back-to-School Power Moves" for Parents as America Starts a New School Year

Super 5 Stems from Ongoing Public Service Partnership with National Parent and Education Organizations

August 16, 2016 2:30 PM EDT

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As millions of students head back to school, Learning Heroes today announced the release of the "Super 5 Back-to-School Power Moves," five simple tips for parents to support their children's academic success and social-emotional-cognitive well-being. The Super 5 is part of a Learning Heroes' continuing national public service initiative to partner with Scholastic Inc., National PTA, National Council of La Raza, National Urban League, UNCF, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, and others. Parents can find the Super 5 and other tools and resources in www.BeALearningHero.org.

The Super 5 was in part a response to data from Parents 2016: Hearts & Minds of Parents in an Uncertain World, a national poll commissioned by Learning Heroes earlier this year, which found that 90 percent of all parents said their child was achieving at or above grade level in reading or math, when the reality is much lower according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress data (36 and 40 percent respectively). The report also found that parents said they could use more knowledge/information about social-emotional learning, as well as a detailed explanation of their child's goals for learning by grade level, both of which the Super 5 provides.

"Every parent is an expert on their children and wants the very best for them. Our role is to give parents the tools to know how their child is developing emotionally and academically so they can best support them on their journey to college and beyond," said Bibb Hubbard, Founder & President of Learning Heroes. "The Super 5 provides simple tips as well as several clickable resources from trusted partners so parents can find what they need quickly and easily -- all in one place."

The Super 5 provides actionable advice for how parents of children in K-8 can understand their child's learning goals for the year and how parents can support their child's learning outside the classroom, weaving educational opportunities into everyday routines. The Super 5 also includes tips for social and emotional development, and tips specific to children ages 0-5.

Parents can find the 2016 Super 5 and other tools and resources at www.BeALearningHero.org.
