JustSystems to Bring Dynamic Docs, DITA Tactics to Content Management Strategies/DITA North America 2008

JustSystems, Inc., the largest independent software vendor in Japan and a worldwide leader in XML and information management technologies, today announced it will discuss its latest strategies for leveraging DITA and applying its "document as application" vision and dynamic documents at Content Management Strategies/DITA North America 2008 to be held April 7 -- 9, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA. JustSystems will be speaking at the conference as well as exhibiting in booth #21.

In "Applications and Documents Collide: The Emergence of Dynamic Documents," Amber Swope, principal consultant for JustSystems, will discuss the emergence of "dynamic documents" as the new application context that gives users an interactive, real-time, fully contextual view of their business. Through a series of rich real-world application examples, this presentation will provide a new lens for reconsidering what were once very isolated domains of applications and documents. It will also provide a framework for thinking about key business processes sitting at the intersection of content and data, business applications, and documents. Monday, April 7, 4pm.

In addition, Swope will also present, "Managing Links with Relationship Tables," which will cover one of the major benefits that DITA provides -- the ability to abstract relationships from within topics and manage them in the maps that reference the topics using relationship tables. Attendees will learn how to maximize DITA's automatic link-generation capabilities, which is particularly useful when generating HTML or online output or using nested maps to generate complex deliverables. In its Demo Track session, Jean Kaplansky, pre-sales solutions consultant for JustSystems, will demonstrate the advantages of XMetaL, the company's XML-based software for structured authoring and content collaboration, as well as XMetaL's role in broader dynamic document initiatives. Showcasing the Dynamic Document Strategy

On the show floor, JustSystems will be promoting "the document as the application," its unique vision for the future of information creation, collaboration, and delivery. Based on XMetaL and xfy (pronounced "x-fie") product lines, this vision unites two previously divided worlds: document publishing and application development.

Traditionally, publishing processes were about static documents -- print, PDF, HTML, etc. And as the web has become richer and more interactive, new content formats called rich media have emerged. But in traditional business process domains, document publishing has remained focused on static artifacts. Policies, procedures, technical manuals, product design documents -- these are just a few examples of static documents that are key to business operations.

Today, there are ways to streamline and accelerate the implementation of change through versioning and other lifecycle services and XML-based componentization of the content itself. But the documents we publish are still just snapshots in time, causing mistakes to be made and unnecessary costs and liabilities to be incurred. In many process areas -- particularly where accuracy is absolutely vital -- this simply isn't good enough.

How then do organizations access live, interactive information? This is the domain of traditional business applications. Typically, ERP, SCM, PLM, BI, and custom workflow applications have been the source of live interactive information. Documents have been the domain of static information. But that's beginning to change. The worlds of document publishing and application development are converging. The document itself is becoming the application, and dynamic documents are emerging to bring users live data and an interactive user experience.
