Jim Coyle of Coyle Hospitality Group to Host Discussion on the Controversial Topic of Tipping at the National Restaurant Association Show

May 17, 2016 8:30 AM EDT

NEW YORK, May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Coyle, founder of Coyle Hospitality Group, the leading provider in customer experience consulting and mystery shopping, will host a world-class panel to discuss the future of restaurant tipping at the National Restaurant Association (NRA) Show on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 3-4pm in room S403.

Titled "Tipping Point: Experts Debate Gratuity Structures," the panelists will examine the new industry trend of eliminating tips.

"This is an extremely timely topic," Jim Coyle said. "We're seeing some high-profile restaurants eliminate tipping and charge higher menu prices. Our panel will debate how this new arrangement impacts the guest experience, staff engagement and the future of dining."

Some of the questions Coyle plans to discuss include:

  • Will restaurants lose customers when they raise prices with a no-tipping system?
  • Are customers concerned with a potential loss of service/hospitality by taking away the incentive of tips?
  • Will switching to a fixed wage impact server hiring and turnover?
  • What has been the experience of those first-mover operators who've already implemented these changes? What can the rest of the industry learn from their experience?

On the panel for the discussion are three world-renowned industry experts. Sarah Lockyer is Editor-in-Chief of Nation's Restaurant News, the foodservice industry's most influential media brand. She also serves as Executive Director of Content for the Penton Restaurant Group, which includes NRN sister publications Restaurant Hospitality and Food Management.

Brett Traussi is Chief Operating Officer of The Dinex Group, Chef Daniel Boulud's restaurant ownership and management company. He is a vital part of the Dinex Group's success, overseeing management of the organization's 18 restaurants on three continents.

Dan Rosenthal has been in the restaurant business nearly 50 years and is President of the Rosenthal Group of seven restaurants in Chicago, including Trattoria No.10, 5 Sopraffina Marketcaffès, and Poag Mahone's. He is also the founder of the Green Chicago Restaurant Coalition and currently serves as Chairman of its Sustainable Meat Committee.

The NRA Show takes place from May 21-24, 2016 at Chicago's McCormick Place. It is expected to attract over 42,000 foodservice buyers and restaurant owners.

Coyle Hospitality Group will be located at Booth #262 where it will offer information about its mystery shopping programs for all food service concepts including restaurants, B&I, airports, hotels, cruise lines and many more.
