Intellijoint Surgical Celebrates Successful Clinical Use of Next Generation intellijoint HIP(TM)
WATERLOO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/01/15 -- Intellijoint Surgical Inc., a privately held Canadian medical technology company committed to developing and commercializing low-cost smart tools, announced today that clinical use of the next generation intellijoint HIP", which now includes acetabular cup position, has begun.
Led by world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Allan Gross, a surgical team, including Dr. Paul Kuzyk and Dr. Oleg Safir, started using intellijoint HIP during hip replacement surgeries at Mount Sinai Hospital. "intellijoint HIP meets all my criteria necessary for practical integration into hip replacement surgery, which is no small feat... It's accurate, fast and affordable," says Dr. Allan Gross, Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. "Initial surgeries confirm these attributes and its value in providing me critical intraoperative measurements in real-time."
Intellijoint Surgical's smart tools enable surgeons and hospitals to improve surgical outcomes by reducing uncertainty and risk, while improving patient outcomes and economics. The company's smart tools benefit from its novel proprietary core technology, a miniaturized surgical grade tracking system placed within the sterile field. intellijoint HIP provides surgeons with vital intra-operative measurements enabling proper cup position, equalization of leg length and restoration of hip offset. These critical measurements can assist in the prevention of recurrent instability, hip dislocation and leg length discrepancy.
"Our team is thrilled with the outcome of the initial surgeries. We have been working in collaboration with surgeons since day one and the result is a product that delivers value to the clinician, easily integrates into their workflow and is simple to use," said Armen Bakirtzian, Co-Founder and CEO of Intellijoint Surgical. "Surgeons in other specialties are already asking us to iterate our design to address unsolved problems they deal with daily. There is so much that our core technology can do, it's a very exciting time for our organization."
Intellijoint has received support from the Federal and Provincial government including the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario's Investing in Business Innovation initiative. The Minister of Research and Innovation, Reza Moridi, commented, "Ontario is pleased to support innovative homegrown start-ups like Intellijoint Surgical. Helping nurture health-tech products, like the company's innovative hip replacement technology, creates valued knowledge-based employment opportunities in Ontario's medical device sector, which is an important component of our province's future economic prosperity."
intellijoint HIP is now available for use by orthopaedic surgeons across Canada.
