According to spiritual teacher G.I. Gurdjieff, the understanding of the Enneagram and the ability to make use of it gives man very great power. It is perpetual motion and it is also the philosopher's stone of the alchemists. Everything can be included and read in it. In order to understand it, it must be thought of as in motion, as moving.
In the "The Nine Dots", author Ian Cogdell shares a helpful toolkit that provides readers with an understanding of their uniqueness by seeing themselves with fresh eyes. The story that accompanies it will unfold as they relate the concepts and ideas within the book to the day-to-day reality of their past and present life. They will learn about where they are, who they are, and how they operate. This book talks about the Three Faces of Self which are the Reactive Self, the Perceptive Self, and the Creative Self. In exploring the three faces of self, it introduces readers to the "nine dots" of the Enneagram in two of its forms. The Enneagram of Pathways describes the processes for accessing and understanding the underlying dynamics of the three faces of self. The Enneagram of Patterns describes the nine universal perception patterns that can be expressed by individuals.
This book is structured in three parts. Part 1 begins by providing readers with an introduction to the various concepts that are applied throughout the rest of the book: the nine dots, the enneagram structure, the primary three-ness, the three faces of self, and the three energies. It also introduces readers to the two forms of the Enneagram--the Enneagram of Pathways and the Enneagram of Patterns. Part 2 provides an understanding of the Enneagram of Patterns, which provides the dynamic framework for developing an integrated theory of personality. In Part 3, it develops the idea of the three faces of self and presents a chapter on each. It also includes an optional reading Appendix to compare a number of well-known personality constructs that was refer to in Part 2, including Jung, Myers Briggs, Keirsey, Berens, Socionics, Benziger, Hermann, the Five Factor Model and the work of Margerison and McCann around work preferences in teams.
A thought-provoking resource material, "The Nine Dots" provides an approach that enables each individual to connect to a purpose that contributes to their sense of meaning in a world that seems increasingly chaotic and fearful. It connects people to their own creativity and potential for innovation.
