AURORA, Colo., Apr. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Havana Business Improvement District, dba On Havana Street, celebrated another year of growth according to the City of Aurora (Colorado) Budget Office.

Compared to the 2012-2013 fiscal period, Havana BID total sales taxes were up 13.8 percent in 2013-2014. Segment influencers included food and dining and auto dealers and parts, which grew by 16 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively.

The 2012-2013 period was also a growth period, marking the fifth consecutive year of substantial growth in the Havana district.

"We've been successful in creating a welcoming atmosphere for Denver and Aurora shoppers, so we're able to leverage our location," said Havana BID Executive Director Gayle Jetchick, referring to the district's locale, which is often referred to as, "where east Denver meets west Aurora."

Jetchick credited Havana BID member merchants with the consistent year-over-year increases. "We promised them if we built community around a brand, shoppers would come, and they've embraced it," said Jetchick of the On Havana Street brand and merchant participation in a full annual calendar of events.

Upcoming On Havana Street events include:

  •  A free document shredding and electronic recycling event on Saturday, April 18, 2015, Noon – 3:00 PM, at The Stampede, 2430 S. Havana St., Aurora, CO

Details about these and other events are available on the Havana BID's website, www.OnHavanaStreet.com, and via a monthly email newsletter.

"The more we support this community," said Jetchick, "the more support we receive. People are enjoying the shopping and experiences we are creating on Havana Street, they're bringing friends to share in the fun, and we are immensely proud and happy of the progress we continue to make."
