River Street Foodies Welcome New Chef to Savannah Hotel Feb 9, 2012 06:01PM

SAVANNAH, GA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/09/12 -- The Savannah Marriott Riverfront Hotel, one of the most reputable hotels on River Street Savannah that is renowned for its service, luxurious accommodations and innovative cuisine, welcomes Chef Stacey Lasure as its new Executive Chef. Chef Lasure has an extensive background in the hospitality industry as well as on the job training. She is most unusual but truly a terrific leader for our Culinary Team.

With over 10 years of industry experience, Chef Lasure has acquired extensive knowledge and skills to competently lead the culinary team and further contribute to the success of the hotel's restaurants on River Street Savannah, GA. Her extensive culinary background with the hotel and natural talent made her the best choice for the position. Chef Lasure has been a part of the Savannah Marriott Riverfront's culinary team since November 2000, where she served as a Banquet Chef until March 2005. From March 2005 to November 2012, she served as Executive Sous Chef for the Savannah Marriott Riverfront Hotel.

In her new role, Chef Lasure will be in charge of the overall operation and administration of the culinary team at this full-service Savannah hotel. Under the direction of the new Chef, this Savannah hotel's restaurants will continue offering its delicious contemporary menu of American fare while refining the services and quality of the food. Chef Lasure believes in the words of David Bly ~ "Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven't planted."

"My entire professional life has been in some form of customer service. The occupations were varied and at times vastly different, but the underlying principle of service was always the same. Without the customer, we have no reason to do what we do," says Chef Lasure. "Cooking has always been an intrinsic part of my life; even when it had nothing to do with my job. Now that it is my job, I find that I get as much enjoyment feeding 500 people in a ballroom as I do from feeding 10 people in my home. There is a great deal of satisfaction in getting up every day and going to a job where I get to do something that I love, but the best part of my day is talking to the guests after they've eaten and hearing 'the food was wonderful.'"

New Release of NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Colon Cancer; Updated NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Prostate Cancer Feb 9, 2012 06:02PM

New NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Colon Cancer and Updated NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Prostate Cancer are now available on-line at NCCN.com. The same authoritative source referenced by physicians and other health care professionals is now written for and available to patients and their caregivers.

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In order to provide people with cancer and their caregivers state-of-the-art treatment information in patient-friendly language, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) has developed two new publications: a new release of the NCCN Guidelines for Patients™: Colon Cancer and an update to the NCCN Guidelines for Patients™: Prostate Cancer. The guidelines provide a framework to help people with cancer talk with their physician about the best treatment options.

According to the 2012 annual report from the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) (Seigel, Naishadham, & Jemal, 2012), colon cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the United States. The newly released NCCN Guidelines for Patients™: Colon Cancer include a treatment guide covering the different stages of colon cancer from early detection and diagnosis throughout treatment, across the entire continuum of care. The guidelines describe tests and treatment options for colon cancer, along with treatment side effects. A thorough glossary is included to aid patients with medical terminology. These guidelines suggest the best practice for colon cancer care and support enrollment into clinical trials when appropriate.

Prostate cancer is a complex disease; fortunately there is a dearth of sound data to support treatment recommendations. NCCN’s Guidelines for Patients™: Prostate Cancer cover several variables (including life expectancy, disease characteristics, predicted outcomes, and patient preferences) that should be considered by the patient and the physician in tailoring prostate cancer therapy to the individual patient. The guidelines provide information that will help people with prostate cancer and their friends and family understand the cancer, and further to help them talk with their cancer care team about the best treatment options. In particular, the guidelines give treatment recommendations based on the characteristics of the cancer possible side effects of treatments, and a side-by-side comparison of the main benefits and disadvantages of the treatments for prostate cancer.

The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) are the most widely used guidelines in oncology practice; physicians around the globe use the NCCN Guidelines when determining appropriate cancer treatment for their patients. The NCCN Guidelines for Patients™ present the same information that physicians use when making treatment decisions for people with cancer, and provide it in an easy-to-understand format.

The NCCN Guidelines for Patients™: Colon Cancer and Prostate Cancer are available free of charge on-line at NCCN.com and NCCN.org. The updated NCCN Guidelines for Patients™: Prostate Cancer is also available in print booklet format. To request a hard copy of this resource, e-mail patientguidelines@nccn.org.

Through the support of the NCCN Foundation, NCCN now offers a library of nine NCCN Guidelines for Patients™, including those on breast, colon, ovarian, non-small cell lung and prostate cancers, as well as chronic myelogenous leukemia, malignant pleural mesothelioma, melanoma, and multiple myeloma. All of these Guidelines are available free of charge at NCCN.com, which also features informative articles for patients and caregivers. These guidelines are also featured on NCCN.org.

Harley-Davidson Commemorates Black History Month Feb 9, 2012 06:00PM

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In commemoration of Black History Month, spotlight exhibits that explore the evolution of African American motorcycle culture will debut Feb. 10 at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

"African Americans have influenced and helped shape motorcycle culture throughout our history. Riding culture is seen differently today because of their numerous contributions to it," said John Comissiong, director of African American outreach marketing, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. "We're number one in sales to African Americans, and not only are we very proud of our shared history, we're always looking for new stories to tell."

Harley-Davidson recognizes the contributions of African Americans who have helped create and sustain the Harley-Davidson motorcycling experience and will feature the stories of some of these highly influential trail blazers. The Museum exhibit includes bikes, stories and images of Harley-Davidson legends like William B. Johnson, the first African American Harley-Davidson dealer; Bessie Stringfield, the first known African American woman to ride solo cross-country on a Harley motorcycle in the 1930s and 1940s; and Ben Hardy, the custom builder who helped create one of the most famous motorcycles in the world, Captain America, for the movie Easy Rider.

The Museum exhibits are an opportunity for bike enthusiasts and the public to personally connect with black riding culture and for African Americans to see themselves in Harley-Davidson's history. In addition, participating Harley-Davidson dealerships around the country will have smaller African American history exhibits on display for riders and enthusiasts to enjoy.

To help gather and feature more stories of African American riders, Harley-Davidson launched Iron Elite in 2010 in the community section of its website designed to showcase African American rider stories, motorcycle customization and legends. The Iron Elite community at www.harley-davidson.com gives visitors a chance to share personal Harley-Davidson stories, show off their bike customization and learn more about key African American motorcyclists who have significantly impacted the sport of motorcycling.

In addition, Harley-Davidson supports and attends a variety of African American events to connect with current riders, such as Atlantic Beach Bike Week, Daytona Black Bike Week and the National Bikers RoundUp, where thousands of African American riders gather in the spirit of unity and in true biker form.

About the Harley-Davidson Museum The Harley-Davidson Museum is a reflection of American history and pop culture through the lens of a true American icon and brand. The Museum offers a one-of-a-kind experience for riders and non-riders alike with rare artifacts exhibits and stories.
