Global Creative Leadership Summit 23-25 September 2009 Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony

September 24, 2009 9:00 PM EDT

NEW YORK, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Each year the Louise Blouin Foundation honors individuals who have shown exceptional leadership at the global level. Ms. Louise Blouin, founder of the GCLS, and Master of Ceremonies and Nobel laureate Dr. Eric Kandel will introduce three individuals who are being honored for their outstanding contributions.

This year's first award recipient is Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, who was assassinated on Dec. 27, 2007. Bhutto was concerned with not only the clash of civilizations between East and West but within Islam itself. She fought for democracy, human rights, and the role of women in society, as well as respect for religion, technology, and modernity, and for that she is being honored. Her husband, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, will give the keynote address at the Gala Awards dinner.

In her book Bhutto remembers:

"Asif and I had made a calculated, difficult decision. We understood the dangers and risks of my return, and we wanted to make sure that no matter what happened our daughters and our son, Bilawal (at college in Oxford), would have a parent to take care of them. It was a discussion that few husbands and wives ever have to have, thankfully. But Asif and I had become accustomed to a life of sacrificing our personal happiness and any sense of normalcy or privacy. Long ago I had made my choice. The people of Pakistan have always come first. The people of Pakistan will always come first."

"The Global Creative Leadership Awards are intended to honor exceptional individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to their fields and to the lives of others on a global scale," Louise Blouin said. "Former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, His Excellency Matti Vanhanen, and designer Bruce Mau are just such leaders. We are honored to recognize these individuals and acclaim their work, which has enriched us all."

Following Bhutto, Prime Minister of Finland Matti Vanhanen will be honored for his work in the promotion of technological innovation and global responsibility with respect to climate change.

Industrial designer Bruce Mau is being honored for his commitment to interdisciplinary and purpose-driven innovation, recognizing the complex challenges and great demand for innovation across disciplines and industries for a sustainable and equitable future.

Past honorees include His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Bill Clinton, Nobel Laureate in Medicine Sir Paul Nurse, Intel Corporation Chairman Dr. Craig Barrett, and contemporary artists Jeff Koons and Chuck Close.
