March 27, 2015 1:00 PM EDT

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Gilda’s Club Twin Cities board of directors announced today they have accepted the resignation of Michelle Silverman, Gilda’s Club Twin Cities’ chief executive officer. Silverman’s last day with the organization will be April 10, 2015.

“On behalf of the board of directors, staff, volunteers and the community of people served by Gilda’s Club Twin Cities, we owe Michelle our utmost gratitude,” said Rick Kleven, Gilda’s Club board president and vice president of government affairs for Thrivent Financial. “Under her visionary leadership we successfully championed a multi-million dollar capital campaign and acquired, renovated and launched the opening of a 7,300 square foot clubhouse where Gilda’s Club delivers one-of-a-kind social and emotional support to anyone touched by cancer.”

“Five years ago I joined Gilda’s Club with the promise to open our doors and begin delivering on our mission of support for the community. I am so proud to have fulfilled my promise,” stated Silverman. “Now it’s time for me to leave so I can focus on the needs of my family and Gilda’s Club can enter its next phase of serving our community and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. I know I’m leaving Gilda’s Club in the very capable hands of our tremendous board, talented staff and fabulous volunteers.”

The board of directors wants to assure the Gilda’s Club community of supporters and members (those who use Gilda’s Club services) that a seamless transition in executive leadership will take place. Interim leadership will consist of Rick Kleven and Eva Stevens, Gilda’s Club vice president and United Properties chief operating officer. The Gilda’s Club staff will report to Kleven and Stevens concerning day-to-day operations while a search for Silverman’s replacement is conducted. The Gilda’s Club board has initiated a search process led by board member Wendy Marie Seyb and will retain professional search services.

Next month Gilda’s Club Twin Cities will celebrate its first full year of operations. Since its opening, Gilda’s Club has served hundreds of people with over 80 program offerings per month. In the next year, the organization will continue to expand its services to the community with an emphasis on children, teen and family programs. Additional support groups and healthy lifestyle and educational offerings will be added as the member base grows.
