Week four of the Get Pop-Cultured with Barnes & Noble campaign kicks off with a celebration of the 1980s. During Throwback Thursday 1980s on July 23, customers can enjoy a 1980s-style Keith Haring Postcard Art Contest, in which participants will design their own Keith Haring-style postcard and upload it to Instagram using the hashtag #bnKeithHaring on or before July 27. The single entry that receives the most “likes” will win a spectacular Keith Haring gift set.

Then, on Friday, July 24, at 7pm, Barnes & Noble is celebrating fandom during its special Fangirl Friday event, during which fangirls are invited to come together and celebrate with themed activities, giveaways and much more.

The fun continues into the weekend with a special Vinyl Day on Saturday, July 25; an entire day devoted to vinyl records during which music lovers can explore Barnes & Noble’s growing assortment and participate in events celebrating vinyl culture.

Next up is James Patterson Day, on Sunday, July 26, where readers are invited to Barnes & Noble to celebrate America’s bestselling author with a special one-day-only offer on all adult, teen, and kids’ books by James Patterson.

Throwback Thursday 1980s – Thursday, July 23

New to Get Pop-Cultured this year, and the cornerstone of the exciting Get Pop-Cultured campaign, customers are invited to their local Barnes & Noble store every Thursday in July to join us for a nostalgic journey through the most iconic moments in pop culture from the 1950s through the 1990s. This Thursday, July 23, is dedicated to the 1980s, and all stores nationwide will be hosting fun themed activities based on the rocking decade. Highlights include a 1980s-style Keith Haring Postcard Art Contest, celebrating the American artist and social activist whose work responded to the New York City street culture of the 1980s. Participants will be able to design their own Keith Haring-style postcard and upload it to Instagram using the hashtag #bnKeithHaring on or before July 27 at 11:59pm ET. And, as always during Barnes & Noble’s exciting Throwback Thursday events, special deals from the decade will round out the excitement. Stores will have special offers on content from the time period including 50% off The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, this edition available only at Barnes & Noble features the original 1980s book cover, 50% off Roald Dahl’s Matilda, one of the most popular books for young readers in the 1980s and an enduring classic today, and 20% off Hasbro-branded My Little Pony toys & games, a favorite of kids in the 1980s and today. Special giveaways include the Ender’s Game Book Cover Mini Poster, while supplies last. Vinyl editions of Thriller by Michael Jackson and Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses, two of the most popular albums of the decade, will be available for sale.

Plus, select NOOK Books®, iconic to the 1980s, will be discounted to only $1.99 for a limited time only: Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi by James Kahn and The Last of the Breed by Louis L’Amour. Customers can also visit a specially crafted Throwback Thursday Display Wall in-stores, which will feature fun facts, images, products and more from the decade. Fangirl Friday – Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m.

Barnes & Noble is calling all fangirls to its stores nationwide for a special Fangirl Friday meet-up on Friday, July 24, at 7pm, to celebrate fandom. From “Potterheads” to “Whovians” to YA Booklovers, there’s a fandom for everyone, and Barnes & Noble is calling all fangirls to unite and visit their local store to enjoy special events, giveaways and more. Cosplay is welcomed. Additionally, while supplies last, customers can pick up the Vinyl Vixen Metallic Wonder Woman, available only at Barnes & Noble.

Special giveaways at the fun event will include Women of Marvel posters, a Women of Marvel comic sampler, The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy book buttons, a Michelle Phan Make Up How-To postcard, and much more, while supplies last. Vinyl Day – Saturday, July 25

Vinyl is back and better than ever, and from classic albums to new releases, the popularity of vinyl continues to grow. To celebrate, Barnes & Noble is hosting a special Vinyl Day on Saturday, July 25, at stores nationwide in which fans of vinyl records can explore Barnes & Noble’s growing assortment and participate in events celebrating vinyl culture, including giveaways, special offers and exclusives.

On Vinyl Day, customers can enter to win a Crosley Turntable and Headphone bundle (one winner per store). In addition, there will be several exclusive, special or early release vinyl editions available for sale. Barnes & Noble will be exclusively carrying Josh Groban’s Stages and Nickelback’s No Fixed Address on vinyl, plus it will have an exclusive gold-colored vinyl edition of Johnny Cash Sings the Songs that Made Him Famous and an exclusive gold/brown swirl vinyl edition of the Grateful Dead’s Workingman’s Dead available for sale, and so much more. In addition, several popular musicians will appear at our stores during Vinyl Day. Satriani also has a new album, Shockwave Supernova coming out on July 24. Vinyl day will also feature Chuck D (Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles), who helped create politically and socially conscious hip hop music in the mid-1980s as the leader of the rap group Public Enemy, and Kate Pierson (Barnes & Noble in Kingston, NY), who is a talented vocalist, lyricist, and one of the lead singers and founding members of The B-52s. James Patterson Day – Sunday, July 26

James Patterson puts the pop! in popular fiction, and we’re celebrating America’s bestselling author and his expansive body of work and enduring talent with a special James Patterson Day on Sunday, July 26. James Patterson Day features an incredible in-store only discount of buy any James Patterson book and get a second James Patterson book (of equal or lesser value) free! All physical and audiobooks for kids, teens and adults are eligible for this incredible offer.

Several giveaways will also be available during James Patterson Day including Max Ride Comic Volume One, a Zoo CBS Bookmark, and more.
