Radware's ADC-VX Powers KPN's Data Center Hosting and Cloud Services With Advanced ADC Virtualization Capabilities Feb 13, 2012 05:30AM

MAHWAH, New Jersey, February 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Solution Will Support KPN's Hosting, Private and Public Cloud Environments Using Clear Segmentation and Isolated Environments for Each of its Customers

Radware (NASDAQ: RDWR), a leading provider of application delivery and application security solutions for virtual and cloud data centers, today announced that KPN, the largest ICT service-provider in the Netherlands, has selected Radware's ADC-VX", ADC consolidation and virtualization platform to support KPN's growing hosting and cloud data center services for business applications.

As it built a cloud-based solution for enterprise services, KPN wanted an application delivery controller (ADC) solution that would deliver isolated environments and dedicated resources for each customer to meet its customer service level agreements (SLA) along with the agility needed to provide cloud services in a changing environment.  With Radware's ADC-VX, KPN found a unique solution that allowed it to offer such an environment to each customer by assigning a private, dedicated virtual ADC instance per customer.

Using Radware's ADC-VX on its Alteon® 5412 application delivery switch, KPN is able to host 28 different customers on one platform with complete isolation between the customers.  This industry-leading density of virtual ADC instances on a single appliance enables the economics and the operational simplicity that a cloud provider requires.  Radware's ADC-VX solution will enable KPN to easily add more dedicated, isolated instances with each new customer, all without the need -- or cost -- for additional hardware.

Additionally, the centralized management system of Radware ADC-VX and its dashboards provide a real-time view of the virtual ADC instances' health and resource utilization, resulting in a scalable solution that is simple to operate and manage that further reduces the operational costs involved in offering ADC services for cloud service providers.

"Providing KPN with a new ADC virtualization solution is a natural fit to its virtual and cloud data center design because it enables them to offer ADC services with a desired cost per customer thanks to our industry-leading density of virtual ADC instances on our devices," said Andre van Buiten, Sales Manager Netherlands, Radware.  "Moreover, the ADC-VX solution benefits from Radware's OnDemand strategy, which will allow KPN to host additional customers just by upgrading the software license on the ADC-VX devices and without a forklift upgrade of the hardware.  Enterprises of all sizes are increasingly looking for ways to leverage hosting and cloud services, and Radware's ability to meet this market need by offering a cost-effective, future-proof solution is a strength that truly sets us apart from the competition."

Powered by Radware's OnDemand Switch® platform, Radware ADC-VX delivers performance superiority that ensures the best quality of experience possible for KPN customers including faster response times for hosted applications and network availability.

Radware's ADC-VX is a key component of Radware's Virtual Application Delivery Infrastructure - (VADI") strategy, which brings the efficiency and agility of virtualization to application delivery solutions.  VADI is an architecture that transforms computing resources as well as application delivery and virtualization services into one integrated, agile and scalable on-demand application delivery infrastructure.

The book is available at http://www.amazon.com and through Barnes & Noble stores.

ADTRAN’s Virtual Wireless LAN Secures 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award Feb 13, 2012 05:30AM

vWLAN recognized for innovation in scalability, reliability, and cloud control

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that TMC, a global, integrated media company, has named ADTRAN’s virtualized wireless LAN (vWLAN®) as a recipient of the 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award. ADTRAN’s vWLAN is the only solution to provide wireless LAN control through a VMware®-ready application and was recognized as one of 2011’s finest innovations in the VoIP and IP communications industry. The ground-breaking solution enables both enterprises and large campuses to unlock unprecedented scalability, unmatched reliability, and advanced cloud control by leveraging virtualization.

Deploying VoIP onto the Wi-Fi infrastructure has created scale challenges for the enterprise. Specifically, adding mobile devices to the network along with existing devices often pushes conventional controller-based systems beyond their user count limit. When VoIP moves to the Wi-Fi infrastructure, coverage needs to be improved so that a signal is sustained as a user moves through the enterprise. That means more access points. Again, the enterprise often hits the access point limitation of a conventional controller-based solution. Finally, users have a tendency to move across a building and even across the campus. If these calls are using the Wi-Fi infrastructure, the mobility domain cannot have seams because these seams tend to cause dropped calls. A wireless network built on multiple physical controllers imposes seams and creates small mobility domains.

“The enterprise wireless network has become part of the VoIP infrastructure and this has presented several challenges,” said Chris Koeneman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Bluesocket Business Group of ADTRAN. “Not only does the WLAN have to support mobility, but it has to cost effectively scale to support many more mobile devices and have the ability to create vast mobility domains. By leveraging the power of virtualization, ADTRAN’s vWLAN achieves the scale necessary to effectively support VoIP over the enterprise wireless network. Combined with ADTRAN’s LAN and Unified Communications portfolios, vWLAN provides the most reliable and scalable wireless solution that can be extended to both wired and wireless users of voice, data, and video services.”

Along with scale, VoIP over Wi-Fi demands high reliability. vWLAN achieves greater reliability by separating the user’s call from the control information about the call. Even if there is an interruption in the control information, the user’s call is not interrupted. With conventional controller-based solutions, an interruption in the control plane means a dropped call.

Delivering a consistent level of service for VoIP can be a challenge, particularly for a distributed enterprise with multiple locations. vWLAN solves this problem by supporting centralized control in the data center. vWLAN can operate as a private or public cloud solution. Control and management is liberated from the LAN as an access point anywhere in the networked world can be part of a vWLAN solution. vWLAN can even support layer 3 roaming for users entering the network from third party access points. This level of flexibility allows for consistent VOIP service across separate Wi-Fi networks.

“I am happy to grant ADTRAN with a Product of the Year Award. The editors of INTERNET TELEPHONY have verified that vWLAN displays quality and innovation plus provides real solutions in the marketplace,” stated Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “I would like to congratulate the entire team at ADTRAN for their commitment to advancing IP communication technologies.”

2011 Product of the Year winners are published in the January/February 2012 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.
