Fifth-Best-Selling Arena in U.S. Builds Its Networking Foundation on Brocade to Consolidate Voice, Data, and Video IP Infrastructure--Helping to Attract Customers and Boost Revenue

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Brocade(R) (Nasdaq: BRCD)

Key Facts

-- The BOK Center, Tulsa's $196 million and 565,000 square foot
state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue, is ranked fifth in the
United States and 14th in the world for the number of tickets sold at
arenas through the third quarter of 2009.
-- The venue is managed by SMG, the world leader in venue management that
provides services to over 200 public assembly facilities -- including
arenas, stadiums, performing arts centers, and theatres, as well as
        convention, conference, and trade centers.
-- Owned by the City Of Tulsa, the BOK Center is part of "Vision 2025," a
project to grow economic and community infrastructure for future
generations. The City hired SMG -- a world leader in venue management,
marketing, and development -- to manage the facility.

Requirements

-- The organization needed to create an internal and customer production
network to meet point-of-sale application demands, enable unified
communications (UC), physically secure the venue, and facilitate
        customer data connectivity.

BOK and SMG needed a network that would facilitate broad deployment of:

  • IP-enabled security cameras
  • Digital signage
  • Digital score boards
  • In-house broadcast TV
  • Wireless Internet
  • Voice over IP (VoIP)
  • Networked sound system
  • General business network traffic/applications

Brocade Solution

-- With an IT staff expected to facilitate flawless events, provide
immediate concession and ticket sales wirelessly, and centrally
control/monitor physical security through Power over Ethernet (PoE)
IP-based cameras, the BOK Center created a highly efficient
Brocade-driven IP network using the Brocade FastIron(R) family of fixed
and modular 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switches.
-- Brocade FastIron Super X 10 GbE core.
-- Multiple Brocade FastIron GS switches with PoE and 802.11n wireless.
-- Multiple Brocade FastIron ES switches with 48-port PoE capabilities.
-- Brocade Mobility solution to seamlessly provide wireless and wired
networking on a single virtual LAN (VLAN).
-- IP security cameras throughout the 565,000 square foot facility powered
by PoE and managed through the Brocade network.
-- An Avaya VoIP system that is fully integrated with the Brocade IP
        network.

Business Benefits

-- Using Brocade converged IP networking switches, BOK not only simplified
voice, video, and data communications, but also reduced the size of its
network infrastructure along with ongoing operating costs.
-- Eliminates the cost of deploying and maintaining separate voice, data,
        and video networks.
-- Helps reduce security costs and increases visitor security due to IP
        surveillance support via PoE.
-- Simplifies management of separate event-critical functions such as video
display, digital signage, sound system, and lighting control.
-- Provides a solid foundation for deploying advanced services and
        technologies in the future.
