Expedia Analysis Reveals Americans Tend to Wait to Last Minute to Book Labor Day Travel

In addition to identifying hot spots and top under-the-radar destinations, the team analyzed 2014 Labor Day holiday booking data and found that a mere 20% of eventual Labor Day travel accommodations had been booked in July 2014, making Labor Day a top last-minute booking holiday. Europe is Sizzling Hot This SummerInternationally, Americans are taking advantage of favorable currency exchange rates by cashing in on hotel deals across Europe. Foreign markets seeing a rise in demand include Barcelona, Spain, where average daily hotel rates (ADR) in U.S. Dollars are down more than 20%, and Florence, Italy, where average daily rates are down more than 5%.

Other popular international destinations for Labor Day 2015 include Paris, London and Rome. Expedia and the Airline Reporting Corporation recently determined that travelers booking summer trips both to international and domestic destinations can enjoy package savings – defined as booking your hotel and air together – up to 30%, or $648, on average.
