Eurotunnel Facilitates the Use of Electric Vehicles

October 27, 2015 10:30 AM EDT

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Regulatory News:

Since 8 October 2015, Eurotunnel (Paris: GET) has made four Tesla Superchargers available at its Victor Hugo Terminal in Folkestone, Kent.

Situated adjacent to two universal chargers, which can be used by all types of electric or hybrid rechargeable vehicles, they now complete the service offering for our customers. This installation, now delivered on the Folkestone Terminal, mirrors what has been available on the Coquelles (Pas-de-Calais) Terminal since 30 June 2015.

From now on, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle customers driving electric vehicles can use the rapid chargers, free of charge; in thirty minutes they will be able to charge their battery to 80% of its capacity (using the universal chargers) or cover a distance of 250 km (Tesla Superchargers). In total, sixteen charge points are available at any one time on the two Channel Tunnel Terminals. This is the only site in Europe with such a comprehensive offer.

Between 1 July and 30 September more than 300 electric vehicles have taken advantage of their Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Channel crossing to recharge their batteries. Compared with 2014, Eurotunnel expects to increase the number of electric vehicles using its service by a factor of 20 in 2015 and a factor of 50 in 2016.

Respect for the environment and innovation in responding to new customer expectations are written into Eurotunnel’s DNA. The launch of the electric charge points is yet another example of this, explains Yves Szrama, Customer Experience Director. Thanks to Eurotunnel, crossing the Channel with an electric car is now simple, effortless and economical.”

Eurotunnel Group has been certified by The Carbon Trust Standard since 2009.
