Empowering the Youth of Today Offers After School Programs to Help Students Gain Self-Esteem

Upland, California (PRWEB) August 27, 2016

Did you know these facts?

*About 10 percent of students are diagnosed with depression before age 18.
*An incredible 30% of tween (10-12) students experience headaches and difficulty sleeping as a result of stress.
*Many students suffer in silence to avoid disappointing their parents, according to the World Health Organization.

But these stats can be reversed. Reason: Recent funding changes are enabling school districts to take advantage of after school programming, including those that emphasize state-of-the art social and emotional learning for troubled students.

That's why, in Southern California, Cathy Warshaw launched Empowering the Youth of Today. "Our program serves as the missing piece to help all students build self-esteem and confidence and a strong inner core so they can handle more issues and stresses effectively on their own," she says.

Empowering the Youth of Today works with students in groups to give them the tools they need to develop the skills to effectively coach themselves through dicey situations that often burden teachers and outside counseling centers.

"We also can help identify students who need one-on-one help to resolve their situations apart from peers or even a family counseling approach. Our mentors are trained to look for behaviors and situations that may warrant additional attention outside of our program either through one on one life coaching or referral to the school's new district counseling center," explains Warshaw.

The program includes a curriculum used by more than 100 certified coaches on six continents and in more than 30 countries around the world. Each of the workshops follows the three main pillars of youth standards for life skills curriculum: Information, Practice, and Self-Reflection.

The proven curriculum targeted for youth in grades 3-5, called It's My Choice!, consists of storytelling, open discussion, and role playing as well as hands-on arts and crafts activities related to the topics being covered. The design of our workshops includes auditory, visual, and tactile learning styles so that students are able to learn in the way that is most comfortable for them.

It's My Choice!, is now being offered to students ages 7-10 in school districts in Southern California, with other programs for youths 11-14 and 15-18 expected to be rolled out in the near future.

Founder and Board President Cathy Warshaw has 35 years of experience in the business, teaching, and non-profit worlds. Her "make it happen" attitude is the driving force behind Empowering the Youth of Today.
