Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 03, 2016

In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month this May, Drs. Allen Huang and Jeffrey Wang of Significance Dental Specialists are educating patients about the proven connection between strokes and periodontal disease. Research shows that these conditions are correlated, and there is evidence that gum disease may contribute directly to strokes. Consequently, Drs. Huang and Wang urge patients to improve their health by getting routine check-ups and practicing good at-home care.

Although researchers are still examining the link between gum disease and stroke, there are several potential explanations for the connection between the conditions. The chronic inflammation associated with gum disease may be a risk factor for various health problems, including strokes. Additionally, some research suggests that strokes may occur as a direct result of the spread of the bacteria that cause gum disease into the bloodstream. Regardless of the exact relationship between these conditions, Drs. Huang and Wang advise patients to safeguard their health by taking steps to prevent gum disease in Las Vegas, NV, or treat existing infections.

To protect the health of patients who have developed gum disease in Las Vegas, NV, Drs. Huang and Wang offer periodontal disease treatment and ongoing periodontal maintenance. During periodontal maintenance, Drs. Huang and Wang perform a focused cleaning of any plaque, calculus and bacteria that have formed above or below the gumline. Regular maintenance can prevent periodontal disease from returning or progressing, which can in turn help reduce a patient's risk of stroke.

People who notice signs of gum disease in Las Vegas, NV, such as bleeding, inflammation, recession and changes in gum pocket size, are urged to schedule consultations at Significance Dental Specialists. After diagnosing the underlying health problem, Drs. Huang and Wang can determine an appropriate course of preventative treatment or intervention.
