Walnut Creek, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2015

Diablo magazine is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Threads of Hope Awards. For the past 20 years, Diablo has invited readers to nominate exceptional volunteers who work for charitable causes in the East Bay. Nomination forms can be found at diablomag.com/threads and will be accepted until July 1, 2015.

The Threads of Hope Awards ceremony, held in December, recognizes outstanding individuals who selflessly give their time to help others and, in doing so, strengthen the fabric of our community. After careful consideration of each nominee's dedication of service, hands-on involvement, and overall impact on the community, a panel of judges representing East Bay businesses and philanthropic organizations chooses these honorees. Diablo magazine expects more than 450 community and business leaders to attend the ceremony.

"We look forward to our Threads of Hope Awards every year as a way to thank those whose mission is to make the community a better place," states Barney Fonzi, President of Diablo Publications. "These individuals are the strengthening ties in our community. In addition, last year marked the inauguration of the Steven J. Rivera Visionary Award, which was given to Tony and Elaine La Russa for their amazing efforts in establishing the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF)."

This year's judging panel will consist of: Jessica Aguirre, weeknight coanchor of NBC Bay Area News at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., and host of Class Action, a weekly segment on public education in California; Mario Alioto, senior vice president, business operations, San Francisco Giants; Mark Flower, senior vice president and regional director for Wells Fargo Private Bank; Steve Lesher, vice president, Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation, and manager of communications and sustainable development, Shell Oil Company; Jo A. S. Loss, executive director at the Volunteer Center of the East Bay; and Carole Wynstra, president of the Walnut Creek Library Foundation and past president of Diablo Theatre Company.

Last year's recipients included Margaret Dixon, from the Oakland Police Activities League; Jane Emanuel, from the Bedford Gallery, where she supports arts education, and a volunteer at the Contra Costa Crisis Center; April Rovero of the National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse; Zachary Smith, an Alzheimer's advocate; and Neil Stratton, from Contra Costa Kops for Kids. All recipients were honored for their contributions to the East Bay community at a reception on December 4, 2014 at the Orinda Theatre.
