Cohen & Steers and SEI Trust Company Partner to Launch Real Assets Collective Investment Trust

May 31, 2016 5:06 PM EDT

NEW YORK, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cohen & Steers, Inc. (NYSE: CNS), a leading global investment manager focused on liquid real assets, today announced that it will act as advisor to the Cohen & Steers Real Assets Multi-Strategy Fund, a new addition to a collective investment trust, or CIT, established by SEI Trust Company, a subsidiary of SEI (NASDAQ: SEIC). SEI is a leading supplier of customized operating infrastructure and services to investment organizations worldwide.

CITs are a rapidly expanding component of defined benefit and defined contribution plans due to the vehicle's ability to accommodate flexible investment strategies, low-cost structure and daily valuation, among other benefits. The CIT is also an effective structure for satisfying growing interest in liquid real assets, with the Cohen & Steers Real Assets Multi-Strategy Fund leveraging Cohen & Steers' investment expertise in these asset classes.

The new CIT's core asset classes will include global real estate securities, commodity futures, natural resource equities and global listed infrastructure. The multi-strategy CIT is a cost-efficient investment vehicle for the institutional retirement plan market that will aid investors in achieving broader diversification, while providing the potential for attractive long-term returns and positive sensitivities to inflation.

"We are excited to partner with SEI to deliver a new vehicle that provides retirement plan sponsors and plan fiduciaries access to Cohen & Steers' deep investment management capabilities in the real assets space through SEI's industry-leading trustee and administrative services," said Todd Glickson, Executive Vice President and Director of Global Marketing & Product Solutions.

Cohen & Steers has $55.0 billion in assets under management as of April 30, 2016, with strategies focusing on real estate securities, listed infrastructure, commodities, natural resource equities and preferred securities. In addition to the Real Assets Multi-Strategy Fund, Cohen & Steers advised CIT offerings include U.S. REITs, global REITs and global listed infrastructure. SEI Trust Company serves as the trustee to the CIT, acts as an ERISA 3(38) fiduciary investment manager, and provides accounting and administrative functions.

"Cohen & Steers' expertise in real assets coupled with SEI's fully scalable, flexible infrastructure is a winning combination for retirement investors," said John Alshefski, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of SEI's Investment Manager Services division. "SEI's integrated capabilities in CITs enables investment managers to grow and retain assets."

A pioneer in the CIT arena, the SEI Trust Company has successfully partnered with CIT advisors for more than 25 years. As of March 31, 2016, it has provided services to more than 251 CITs representing over $40 billion in assets, making it one of the leading providers of CIT services and expertise.
